Notice

Definition:
A formal sign or notification attached to physical objects that embody or reproduce an intellectual property right -- for example, the use of the word "patent" or its abbreviation, "pat.," together with the patent number, on a patented article made by a patent holder or his/her licensees.

Fanciful Marks

Definition:
Comprise terms that have been invented for the sole purpose of functioning as a trademark or service mark.

Dilution

Definition:
A type of infringement of a trademark in which the defendant's use, while not causing likelihood of confusion, tarnishes the image or blurs the distinctiveness of the owner's mark.

EBC

Definition:
Electronic Business Center - includes links to Patents EBC and Trademarks EBC - a web page containing hyperlinks to all online systems for conducting electronic commerce with the USPTO.

First Sale Doctrine

Definition:
An exception to the exclusive right of a copyright owner to distribute copies or phonorecords of the copyrighted work.
